Since 1982 – over four decades – the Sisters Kiwanis club has provided a pancake breakfast for
Sisters Rodeo participants, rodeo attendees, and the Sisters community. Sisters Kiwanis
volunteers serve hearty stacks of pancakes, bacon, sausage, eggs, orange juice, milk, coffee,
and all the fixin’s.
The Sisters Kiwanis club has come a long way from simply boiling a pot of cowboy coffee and
using a single griddle. Today seven grills and numerous percolators serve about 800 hungry
buckaroos who consume 160 pounds of pancake mix, 200 pounds of bacon, 100 pounds of
sausage patties and 140 dozen eggs.
According to Breakfast chairperson, Dave Cox “the Buckaroo Breakfast is all about community
camaraderie. For 44 years the breakfast has brought together local residents, Kiwanis
members, rodeo contestants, and community volunteers for more than just a breakfast – it’s
the town spirit of Sisters. And since all event proceeds go to local charities makes it very
special.”
About 50 volunteers work more than 250 hours on this event to make the fundraiser a success.
All net proceeds go to help Sisters Kiwanis support local charities, including the Sisters Food
bank, the family access network, high school scholarships, Sisters Park and Recreation, and
other local activities that support youth.
The breakfast runs from 7 AM to 11 AM on Sunday, June 14. Adults are $15 kids 4 to 12 are $7
and kids three and under are free.
